The artist, Alice Samson, whose husband owned the Samson Hotel in Tacoma, painted this picture for J.F. Rheim, keeper of the Drydock Hotel on Maury Island featured prominently on the right side of this painting. The Dockton drydock was established in 1892 with its first job being to attach sponsons to the hull of the steamer FLYER.
