Throughout Pride Month, MOHAI is sharing objects and photos from our collection that tell LGBTQ+ histories. Current LGBTQ+ rights are the result of a long history of LGBTQ+ activism against police harassment.

The first Pride Week was celebrated by Seattle’s gay and lesbian community in June 1973. Now called Seattle Pride, this series of events is held annually on the last weekend in June to honor the Stonewall riots, the 1969 event brought wide visibility to the gay rights movement in the United States.
