Join the MOHAI Mercantile for a reading of Trailblazing Black Women of Washington State with author Marilyn Morgan. Also joining her in conversation will be featured trailblazer, Cynthia Tucker, historian of the Washington State Federation of Colored Women's Clubs.
Born in Seattle in 1917, Syvilla Fort was an influential artist who began her dance career in the 1930s at the Cornish School (now Cornish College). She went on to find fame as a performer in the Katherine Dunham Company and was recognized as a transformative dance educator in New York. In the spirit of collective remembering, Seattle-based artists, educators and historians will come together to illuminate her living legacy in a multimedia evening.
