University of Washington class ring, 1894
This gold-plated University of Washington class ring belonged to Carrie (Davis) Wright who was president of her graduating class in 1894. She went on to teach school in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.

Souvenir card deck from University of Washington Book Store, ca. 1910-1920
This souvenir deck of Husky playing cards commemorates the founding of the University of Washington in 1861. Designs on the cards include the husky mascot as well as swastikas, which were still considered a purely auspicious symbol even into the early 20th century.

The Central School was the first building built by the Seattle School District. It opened August 15, 1870 on Third Avenue between Madison and Spring Streets. Windsor side chair made in the University "Boarding House," 1861-1862
This chair was made by D.C. Beatty who was an early settler in Olympia but came to Seattle when the Territorial University was being built in 1861 on the corner of Seneca Street and Fourth Avenue. Beatty made most of the desks, chairs and benches used in the University.

Handmade gym ensemble from St. Nicholas Girl's School in Seattle, 1930
This seersucker gym ensemble combines function with charming accents. In the 1930s, Seattle stores sold similar “sport frocks” for tennis or golf. Today, this might pass for a regular dress rather than a gym uniform. The shirt buttons between the legs so it stays put even during gym class.

Gold mesh purse in case, ca. 1930-1940
This purse set was owned by Theiline Pigott McCone (1903-1990), a Seattle philanthropist and regent of Seattle University. She was first married to Paul Piggott, former President of Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR), and then married John McCone, former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The purse was personalized with the rhinestone initials T and M.
