You're invited to Illegal to Be You: Gay History Beyond Stonewall, a national conversation with Katherine Ott curator and historian at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Ott will discuss her work curating Illegal to Be You: Gay History Beyond Stonewall, an exhibition currently on view at the National Museum of American History that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising and other pivotal moments in the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement.

Stories bind communities together, revealing histories that lay the foundation for who we are, and where we are going. Within the LGBTQ+ community, experiences of belonging and exclusion are central to the search for connection, identity and acknowledgment of basic human rights. Join local guests as they share their own stories through #ObjectsOfPride that inspire memories of their experiences. Celebrate and connect this Pride Month through personal LGBTQ+ histories! Open to all community members who identify as LGBTQ+, this online gathering is a chance to a share a short story about a photo, garment, or artifact that illuminates your LGBTQ+ history and to hear from others. Small, facilitated break-out rooms will allow an intimate opportunity to connect and learn about the unique individual tales of LGBTQ+ life in our region.

Initiative 13, sponsored by Save Our Moral Ethics, sought to repeal Seattle's ordinances protecting gay and lesbian employment and housing rights and to abolish the Office of Women's Rights. In 1978, a broad coalition of organizations employed varied media strategies to convince voters to reject the measure. Join organizers from the campaign to learn and see lessons that can be applied today.
