But the mysteries can be intriguing stories themselves, providing insights into the past as well as how we understand history. In this special lecture by Clara Berg, MOHAI's Curator of Collections, hear about the challenges of using objects to document history, as well as the surprising ways that they can unlock stories that would otherwise remain hidden.

Celebrate Juneteenth with a special storytelling-hour featuring Mr. Delbert Richardson. During this hour, Mr. Richardson will highlight the resistance of his ancestors during the periods of American chattel slavery and Jim Crow, as well as focus on the resilience of Black brilliance. This online program draws from sections of the national award-winning American History Traveling Museum: The Unspoken Truths, which will be on display at MOHAI from June 18 through June 21, 2021.

Join author-naturalist David B Williams for a discussion based on his book, Homewaters: A Human and Natural History of the Puget Sound. Learn about the long history of the Puget Sound and the interactions between humans and the rest of the natural world. Inspired by advances in science and management, Williams will offer newcomers and longtime residents alike reasons to feel hopeful about the future of the waters they call home.

Seattle's first workforce consisted overwhelmingly of Asian and Indigenous migrant laborers. Though these workers largely powered the urban and regional economy, their role in building the city has long been forgotten. Join historian Megan Asaka as she explores Seattle's early days from the perspective of these marginalized laborers whose experiences hold important lessons for the city's past-and present.
