Join the MOHAI Mercantile for a book signing and conversation with Cynthia Brothers, author of the new book Signs of Vanishing Seattle: Places Loved and Lost, and Tom Eykemans, the book designer and publisher.

Signs of Vanishing Seattle celebrates places loved and lost by documenting a community-sourced collection of salvaged signs from gathering spaces and social landmarks that have shaped Seattle’s visual and cultural landscape over the years.

This book beautifully captures the Vanishing Seattle interactive exhibit which took place in the historic RailSpur building in 2023.

Share your own memories of notable Seattle institutions, hear from the author, and pick up your copy of the book at the MOHAI Mercantile.

Doors open at 6 pm

Presentation begins at 7 pm

Cynthia Brothers

Cynthia Brothers is the founder of Vanishing Seattle, which documents the displaced and disappearing institutions, small businesses, and cultures of Seattle – and celebrates the spaces and communities that give the city its soul. Cynthia is also a founding member of the anti displacement organizing group Chinatown International District (CID) Coalition, aka #HumbowsNotHotels.

Thomas Eykemans

Thomas Eykemans

Thomas Eykemans is Design Director at Marquand Books, which develops, designs, and produces books with museums, artists, and publishers. He is co-organizer of the Seattle Art Book Fair and founder of Tome Press. He studies and teaches traditional martial arts at the Seattle Kung Fu Club. He was born in Seattle to Dutch parents and raised in Port Angeles, where the mountains greet the sea.
