History Café: Exploring the Historic Ships Wharf

Join Seattle maritime history experts for a tour of two iconic historic ships!

The ARTHUR FOSS tugboat, currently the oldest floating vessel in the Pacific Northwest, and the SS VIRGINIA V steamer, a member of the region’s original Mosquito Fleet, are integral parts of local history.

Begin the evening with a special presentation at the MOHAI Café about the wooden working ships that shaped our region, then experience these historic ships yourself with a guided tour of both vessels.

Saxon Bisbee

Saxon Bisbee is Vessel Manager & Nautical Archaeologist at Northwest Seaport Maritime Heritage Center. He is a coauthor of The Scuppernong River Project: Explorations of Tyrrell County Maritime History (2012) and author of the landmark book Engines of Rebellion: Confederate Ironclads and Steam Engineering in the American Civil War (2018).

Ed Brown

Ed is the head docent for the Virginia V Foundation. Their life-long interest in Washington history developed into a focus on the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet after they began working aboard the VIRGINIA V in college. Ed can usually be found aboard the VIRGINIA V giving tours to the public.
