
The University of Washington played its first football game on Thanksgiving 1889, just a few weeks after Washington became a state. From these opening days of statehood, university and college teams have provided local fans something to cheer about, from action-packed games to community fundraising events and school spirit opportunities.
Some of the items shown below were added to MOHAI’s online collection thanks to a grant supported with funding provided by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Library Services and Technology Act, through the Washington State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
