This photograph shows the busy intersection of Yesler Way and Second Avenue in Seattle's Pioneer Square in 1912. In the foreground, the Leschi Park and Lake Washington cable car heads east on Yesler Way, loaded to capacity with passengers. A sign on the front of the car reads "Northwestern League Base Ball Today! Take this car." The baseball fans overflowing the cable car are no doubt headed to a game at Dugdale athletic field at 12th and Yesler. Opened in 1912 and used primarily for baseball, Dugdale Field (also know as Yesler Way Park) was the home of Seattle Indians and Seattle Giants. Named after local baseball pioneer Daniel E. Dugdale, the field was destroyed by fire in July 1932.
