Order an ImageJohn deHaas (d. 1926) came to Seattle in around 1890, and worked as a letter carrier from 1890 to 1922. He and his wife, Clara, lived on Fourth Avenue NE in the Latona neighborhood. This photo shows deHaas, his cart and horse festooned with flags and decorations, dressed up as "Uncle Sam" for a Fourth of July celebration sometime in the 1890s.
