Order an ImageSituated on the northeast corner of Minor Avenue and Cherry Street, the Minor-Collins Home was built in 1887 by Sarah and Dr. Thomas T. Minor (1844-1889), one of the earliest grand homes built on First Hill. In 1891 when Angela and John Collins (1835-1903) became the new residents, it was still addressed 702 12th Avenue, but the street was soon renamed Minor Avenue. The home was razed in 1951, and the site is now part of the Swedish Hospital campus. A brick building in Pioneer Square built by John Collins in 1894 called the Collins Building, still stands at Second Avenue and James Street. It is sited on land once occupied by the Collins' personal residence, which was destroyed in the Great Seattle Fire of 1889.
This image of the Minor-Collins house at 702 Minor Avenue was taken before Minor Avenue and Cherry Street were graded. The house at the left belonged to Mrs. A. H. Anderson, and the middle house to "Pa" Edwards.
