Order an ImageGaggin & Gaggin, an architectural firm in Syracuse, New York, designed Seattle's Smith Tower. Construction began in 1910, and the 42-story building opened in 1914. At that time, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
This photo, taken in 1912 or 1913 shows workmen, including one teenager, making the iron and brasswork used in the the Smith Tower's lobby and elevator shaft. The building still stands at the corner of Second Avenue and Yesler Way in downtown Seattle.
