Order an ImageThe Puget Sound Bridge & Dredging Company built several river steamers for the Klondike gold rush and over 20 naval vessels for World War I. After building the pontoons for the first Lake Washington floating bridge, the company turned back to building ships for World War II.
In this photo, taken on a sunny June day in 1944, a large crowd gathers at the Puget Sound Bridge & Dredging Company yard for the launching of two new minesweepers, the "Facility" and the "Executive." The photographer abbreviated the name of the second ship on the negative.
