The music and lyrics for "Seattle, My Own Home Town," were written by two women who were born elsewhere but spent their adult lives in the greater Seattle area. A songwriter born in Illinois who enjoyed considerable success in Seattle, Rosetta Adelle (Perry) Gibbon (1904-1988), also wrote "Hail, the Navy," which won a 1933 Chamber of Commerce Fleet Week contest, and "Seattle Opens Her Heart to You," the official greeting song for the 1963 World's Fair. Mrs. Gibbon's collaborator on "Seattle, My Own Home Town," was Marjorie May "Marge" (Brodt) Whaley (1912-1997), a music teacher born in South Dakota.
This arrangement of "Seattle, My Own Home Town," was published by Capitol Music Company. The piece was recorded by Mercer Island Children's Choir, who also sung it live at a Mariner's game on October 2, 1989.
