Rudi Becker, Seattle, 1964
Order an ImageRudi Becker (1913-1976) was well-known on Seattle's waterfront, working as a tugboat operator, Harbor Tours operator, sales engineer, and decorator of Ivar's Acres of Clams. He was beloved for his jokes and stories. Seattle Times photographer Josef Scaylea took this portrait of Becker in 1964, and called Becker "Seattle's most colorful citizen."
Scaylea (1913-2004) worked for 35 years as chief photographer for the Seattle Times, winning over 1000 awards for his photographs highlighting the scenery and people in the Pacific Northwest. He donated a collection of his photographs and photography equipment to MOHAI in 1993.
