This photograph shows the land fill and tidal flats of the area south of downtown Seattle. Visible at about the center of the right edge of the frame are men working on a new property by digging canals and deposing the soil to make new land. The building will likely be eventually connected to those around it via plank roads and boardwalks supported by timber pile foundations.
This photo is from an album of photographs documenting Beacon Hill and construction around Seattle in 1923, probably of projects by the Puget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company (later Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company), a major contributor to the construction of the Pacific Northwest. All of the photos were taken by noted Seattle photographer Asahel Curtis.
