Order an ImageIn the 1910s, the city of Everett, Washington had a variety of wood products industries. According to a city directory from the period, the Everett Pulp and Paper Company was one of the city's larger businesses, employing over 200 "men." This figure may or may not have included the women who worked at the plant. The company produced book paper, label and writing paper, school books, composition books, and writing tablets.
This photographic postcard, probably made in the 1910s, shows a group of women working at binding machinery at Everett Pulp and Paper. They appear to be making large writing tablets from the paper stacked behind them.
