Founded in 1938, Seattle’s Luck Ngi Music Society specialized in Chinese opera. Located at 512 Seventh Avenue South, they often practiced and performed at nearby Chong Wa Hall.

In 1975, as advertised on this flier, the group performed the Chinese opera “Bloodbath” as a benefit for the Chong Wa Benevolent Association. Edward Shui “Ping” Chow (photo third from the right) played the character Sun Fuk-Hoi.

Born in Canton, China in 1916, Ping Chow (1916-2011) had apprenticed with a Chinese opera singer as a child and became a touring star. By 1950, he and his wife Ruby had settled in Seattle and opened Ruby Chow’s restaurant. Over the years, the Chow family were heavily involved in the Seattle community. Among many other activities, Ping Chow served as president of the Chong Wa Association and sponsored Chinese performing groups.
