Don't Steal Our Thunder poster, 2006
Order an ImageIn 2006, a group from Oklahoma City bought the Seattle SuperSonics basketball team. The new owners attempted to gain support for building a new stadium in Seattle for the team but when these efforts failed, they decided to move the Sonics to Oklahoma despite strong resistance in Seattle.
This poster was produced by Save Our Sonics and Save Our Storm, community groups meant to keep the Sonics and the Seattle Storm women's basketball teams in Seattle. At the time, the Oklahoma City group owned both teams. The Sonics left after the 2007-2008 season and were renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder (as alluded to in the poster). However, the Storm remained in Seattle after four local businesswomen bought the team in 2008.
