Charles Malmo emigrated from Norway in 1878, arrived in Seattle in 1891, and established Malmo Seed and Nursery Company in 1893. He opened his first garden store at 916 Second Avenue in what would become downtown Seattle. Over the years, the Malmo company expanded to several locations and became known for its fine plants, trees, and landscaping services.

In this image, an unidentified older man, possibly Charles Malmo, stands beside a car loaded with evergreens and other trees with their root-balls wrapped in burlap. The location is probably the Malmo property in Georgetown, where the company maintained fields and greenhouses.
