Letter from J.M.C. Warren to Hiram Warren, 1903
Contact MOHAI to OrderThis letter dated July 26, 1903 from J.M.C. Warren of Northbend (now North Bend), Washington to his uncle Hiram L. Warren in Ballard discusses Hiram's recent immigration to the region, offering suggestions of where he can find work at a mill as a sawyer, planer, or filer. J.M.C. Warren mentions that mills outside the city pay sawyers more. According to city directories and the 1910 census, Hiram Warren was 53 when he moved to the state with his wife and at least three children, and he was able to find employment as a night watchman from 1905 until 1910. He died in 1911.
