The Jimi Hendrix Experience performed in Hendrix’s hometown of Seattle three times from 1968 to 1970, once at Seattle Center Arena and twice at the larger Seattle Center Coliseum. After the Experience dissolved, Hendrix and his band made one more appearance in Seattle, on July 26, 1970, performing outdoors at Sicks' Stadium on Rainier Avenue South. The day was rainy, but thousands of fans filled the sodden field to watch Hendrix. Back up bands Cactus and Rube Tubin & the Rondonnas warmed up the crowd, and Hendrix took the stage at 7:15, opening his set of a dozen songs with “Fire.” The concert would be the last Hendrix played in his hometown before his death in September 1970.

In this photo, a security guard monitors the crowd gathered on a hill outside the stadium. Known as "Tightwad Hill," the grassy knoll was a place to watch events inside the stadium without paying an entrance fee. During the concert, Hendrix instructed stadium personnel to open the gates and let in the hundreds of fans watching from the hill.
