Shown here is Issue No. 1 of "Punk Phoenix Rising," a Seattle punk fanzine created by Carol Pearsall. Pearsall had been a fan of the short-lived zine "Desperate Times," a product of the area’s underground/alternative/punk music scene, published in only six issues in the summer of 1981. When that magazine ceased publication, Pearsall created "Punk Phoenix Rising," "until something comes along to take its place."

This issue of "Punk Phoenix Rising," perhaps the only issue published, contains a Vancouver, B.C., music scene report written by Robert Weise, an interview with the band Subhumans, lyrics to songs by Mike Refuzor of the Gargoyles, a review of the Lech Kowalski film "D.O.A.: A Right of Passage," and more.
