Rev. William Henry Kanouse business card, circa 1933
Order an ImageThis business card for William Henry Kanouse (1877-1951) advertises him as "an ordained medium and spirit photographer." Spirit photography, popular in the late nineteenth century, purported to record ghosts and other spirits through photography. The card also advertises "trumpet meetings" held Sunday and Thursday at 8 p.m., and the availability of appointments from 1-5pm. An address of 301 21st Ave S. is crossed off and 715 Lakeview Blvd handwritten on the card; both of these addresses are listed as William Henry Kanouse's home address in the city directories. The back of the card includes a list of "Spiritual Phenomena of The Bible."
