Super Sonics inaugural game reception invitation, October 20, 1967
Contact MOHAI to OrderSeattle's professional men's basketball team, the SuperSonics, played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1967 until 2008, when the team relocated to Oklahoma City as the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Sonics first official NBA home game was played against the San Diego Rockets at the Seattle Center Coliseum (now KeyArena) on October 20, 1967.
The invitation picture here is for a buffet and reception held in the Exhibition Hall after the inaugural game; tickets were sold for $27 per couple (game tickets were $6 each). Guest of Honor for the event was NBA Commissioner J. Walter Kennedy, and male guests were expected to wear black tie with dark jackets, while women were expected to wear short or long gowns. The menu included vintage champagne, avocado-grapefruit soufflé, parisienne potato balls, miniature lobster tails, roast baron of beef, banana-nut bread, and spiced cheese balls.
