In 1924 Seattle's landmark Olympic Hotel (now Fairmont Olympic Hotel) opened downtown on the original site of the University of Washington. Designed by architect George B. Post & Son in the Italian Renaissance style popular at the time, the total cost for construction was $5,500,000, with $800,000 going to furnishings alone.
The brochure pictured here advertises the hotel's elegant features, including the two-story lobby and the Georgian Dining Room. At the time, single rooms with a shower bath were $3.50-$4.00 per night. The hotel's manager, Frank Wilbur Hull (1884-1960) worked at the Olympic from its opening until his retirement in 1943. An image of Volunteer Park inside the brochure shows the 150 foot long wooden band pavilion, an original area of the park built in 1912 and demolished in 1931 to make way for the Seattle (now Asian) Art Museum.
