The real estate investment firm of Crawford & Conover was founded in Seattle in 1888 by Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper reporters turned business partners Samuel Leroy Crawford (1855-1916) and Charles Tallmadge Conover (1862-1961). C.T. Conover is credited with coining Washington State's nickname, "The Evergreen State," during an 1890 national campaign to advertise Seattle and Washington State. After Conover's retirement in 1941, the firm was purchased by Albert Balch, who served as the President of Crawford & Conover until his death in 1976.

C., (Edmund Clarence) Baird (1868-1950), Secretary. The card also gives the company's references as "Every bank and business man in Seattle."
