Ohio natives David and Tasso Morgan came to Seattle in 1905 and founded the Northern Life Insurance Company in 1906. The Morgans' approach to insurance, which combined accident and health coverage with life insurance, was new at the time, and the company became very successful.

Northern Life celebrated National Accident and Health Week with other insurance companies nationwide. In 1937, the firm gave away small wooden cards to advertise the event.
