In 1915, Seattle joined the professional men's ice hockey league in western Canada and the western United States with their new team, the Metropolitans. The Mets, as they were known, played their home games at the Seattle Ice Arena (site of the present-day Seattle Center), in a new, state-of-the-art facility built by the Canadian brothers Frank and Lester Patrick. The Patricks began the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA), with the Victoria Aristocrats (later Spokane Canaries), Portland Uncle Sams (later Portland Rosebuds), and Vancouver Millionaires (later Vancouver Maroons), then added the Seattle team, made up of Canadian players poached from other teams and leagues.

The scorecard pictured here is from the second game of the 1916-1917 season, the season that the Mets became the first American team to win the Stanley Cup. This game was played in Seattle on December 5, 1916, and Seattle won 4-3 in overtime, in front of a crowd of about 2,500 fans. Led by coach Linton Muldoon Treacy (1887-1929), better known as Pete Muldoon, the players listed on the Seattle roster are the same players that defeated defending champion Montreal Canadiens in March 1917 during the finals: Everard Lorne "Ed" Carpenter (1887-1963); Harry George "Hap" Holmes (1888-1941); Bernard Patrick "Bernie" Morris (1890-1963); Roy Allison Rickey (1893-1959); James Norman "Jim" Riley (1895-1969); Robert Price "Stubby" Rowe (1885-1948); John Phillip "Jack" Walker (1888-1950); and Carol William "Cully" Wilson (1892-1962). Both Holmes and Walker are members of the Hockey Hall of fame. Pictured also on this card is Curtis Wallace Lester (1876-1953), manager of the Seattle Ice Arena.
