Swedish immigrants Alfred and Alberta "Bertie" Kristoferson moved to Washington in 1890 and opened Kristoferson Dairy in 1897. Son August Kristoferson took the reins of the dairy business after his father's death in 1914. After operating at several other locations in Seattle, the company built a plant at 1300 Rainier Avenue, with over 50 delivery trucks. The firm's entry in the 1930 Polk's Seattle City Directory promotes the company's "Perfectly Pasteurized Milk and Cream." In 1951, the dairy was acquired by a larger regional firm, but the family still maintains the Kristoferson Farm in Camano Island, from land purchased in 1912.
Kristoferson Dairy produced an annual calendar for many years, including this one from 1933. Above the calendar, 15 bound pages outline the company history, offer recipe suggestions and other home management tips, and give children's nutrition recommendations from the Child Welfare Division of the Department of Health and Sanitation of Seattle. The monthly calendar pages call out important dates in the company and Seattle's history, with drawings to illustrate these events, and a weather almanac summary for the month.
