On the Shores of Puget Sound
Contact MOHAI to OrderThe lyrics for "On the Shores of Puget Sound" were written by Edward Livingston Greenwood (1876-1957) and the music was written by Patrick William Guyheen (1881-1958). Both men were Washingtonians (also Washingtonian movement, Washingtonian Temperance Society, or Washingtonian Total Abstinence Society) and the song was written for their local chapter. The piece was published by G. & G. Publishing Company of Seattle, and distributed free by The MacDougall-Southwick Company, a Seattle department store. Printed on the verso of the score is an excerpt from a speech made by Mr. Guyheen to members of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce on April 24, 1934.
Captain Greenwood (1876-1957) was a marine captain from Nova Scotia who moved to Seattle with his family around 1915. He composed at least one other song, "Franklin Roosevelt, Our President," written for his fellow members of the Roosevelt Men's Democratic Club.
