Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church began in 1908 as an outreach mission of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in downtown Seattle to the Swedish immigrants that settled in the Green Lake area at the turn of the 20th century. The congregation was served by several intern pastors before calling their first full time pastor, Otto Karlstrom, in 1911. Services were held in Swedish until the late 1920s. The congregation closed in the 2010s and the building, located at 7400 Woodlawn Avenue NE, houses Emmaus Table Center for Community, Arts, and Spirituality as of 2025.
