Opened during World War II, Harmel's was located at 7321 Sand Point Way, directly opposite the Sand Point Naval Air Station. The local newspaper noted the establishment of this "new-type cafe" in December 1941 as a reflection of population and traffic growth in the Sand Point district, adding that Harmel's "will have an extensive parking area to provide drive-in service."

This Harmel's menu is a patriotic military blue with an aerial photo of a plane over the Seattle waterfront on the cover, and the take-out promise that "We'll have your order waiting for you." Menu offerings at Harmel's include the "Great Dane" hot dog, with potato salad included, for 15 cents, a sardine sandwich for 25 cents, and canned soups for 15 cents.
