Sponsored by the Seattle chapter of the Tacky Tourist Clubs of America, "The Prom You Never Went To" was an annual event first held in 1983 that became an institution in the local gay and lesbian community. The annual party at "Lavender Valley High School, Home of the Fighting Poodles," gave gay people an opportunity to take the people they really wanted to their high-school proms and raised money for gay and lesbian causes.

This keepsake picture frame holds a photograph taken at the prom held on April 28, 1990, of Ric Weiland, seated, with his "prom" date. Richard W. "Ric" Weiland (1953-2006) was the inaugural Microsoft general manager and programmer who, after retiring from the company at 35, devoted himself to philanthropy. Upon his death Mr. Weiland bequeathed $170 million for endowments distributed between 20 non-profit organizations, including more than $65 million to LGBTQ causes and HIV research.
