Albert Dean Rosellini (1910-2011) was born in Tacoma to Italian American immigrants, and moved with his family to Seattle's Rainier Valley in 1916. Despite the relative poverty of his upbringing, Mr. Rosellini was able to study law at the University of Washington, and then established a highly visible practice as a Seattle attorney. He won election to the State Senate in 1938, and became a leading champion of working people, juvenile justice reform, transportation improvements, and other liberal causes.
This poster was created in 1956 for Mr. Rosellini's first run for governor of Washington State, which he won. He was re-elected in 1960, then lost a bid for a third term in 1964 but remained active in business and public life. In 1988, Washington State renamed the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge (also 520 Bridge) as the Governor Albert D. Rosellini Bridge in honor of the governor who pushed its construction.
