The "Stonewall Rebellion 1981 Lesbian/Gay Freedom March" occurred outside the federal Courthouse in downtown Seattle on June 27, 1981. About 1,500 demonstrators participated in the event, criticizing leaders of the country's "Moral Majority" for their conservatism, which marchers said negatively affects the jobs, pay, housing, and life-style of queer people. The event was sponsored by the Stonewall Committee, a Seattle coalition of gay men and lesbians that organized the city's early pride marches.
