Implosion of the Kingdome, Seattle, March 26, 2000
Order an ImageGroundbreaking for Seattle’s domed multipurpose stadium, the Kingdome, took place in 1972, and the facility opened in 1976 south of Pioneer Square. It was home to the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle SuperSonics, and it also hosted rock concerts and other events. The Kingdome was imploded in the spring of 2000 after new purpose-built stadiums were approved for Seattle’s baseball and football teams.
