Seattle-born photographer Al Smith was a familiar figure in the clubs, often taking pictures of musicians and patrons, then returning the following week to sell prints.
On this occasion, Smith photographed a blonde woman, identified as Sally Miller, seated at a bar in the Basin Street nightclub. She wears a fur coat and fur-trimmed hat, and her hands are covered by a fur muff. Bottles of Upper 10 mixer line the back of the bar, and a cat is poised on a nearby barstool.
