James Andrew "Jimmy" Rushing (1901-1972) was a blues singer and pianist from Oklahoma who performed from the mid-1920s into the 1950s. Nicknamed "Mr. Five By Five," the heavyset Rushing was best know for being a singer with the Count Basie Orchestra from 1935-1948.

Here, Jimmy Rushing sings at a microphone at Seattle's Civic Auditorium, with Count Basie's orchestra behind him and the audience pressed against the stage.
