Buford Silas Ransom (1927-2013) was a welterweight boxer from Seattle. Nicknamed "Schoolboy Ransom," he started boxing while a student at Broadway High School, and had his first amateur match in 1946, at 17 years old. Ransom was coached by professional fighter and trainer Frisco McGale, and won all 20 of his amateur bouts under McGale, 19 of them by knockout. Ransom also fought at the Golden Gloves championship in February 1947 representing the East Madison YMCA.

On March 11, 1947, Buford Ransom had his professional debut at the Seattle Civic Auditorium, winning a match against Gus Edwards by knockout in the second round. Ransom's career record is 22 wins (with 16 knockouts), 7 loses and 5 draws. Ransom fought professionally from 1947 to 1951, and returned to the ring for 4 bouts in 1958.
