"The Normal Heart" is a largely autobiographical play by Larry Kramer (b. 1935) focusing on the rise of the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984, as seen through the eyes of main character Ned Weeks, a writer/activist and the gay founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group. After a initial successful 1985 Off-Broadway production at The Public Theater, the play has been revived multiple times and was adapted into a feature film in 2014.

The program pictured here is from a February 8, 1986, performance of "The Normal Heart" at Seattle's Pioneer Square Theater. The production was directed by poet and Pioneer Square Theater co-founder Nick Flynn (b. 1960). The program also includes information from the Northwest AIDS Foundation and a graph illustrating the rise in cases of AIDS reported in King County between 1982-1985.
