Recipes Using Vernell's Real Buttermint Candy, circa 1951
Contact MOHAI to OrderVernell's Fine Candies was founded in 1947 by Vern and Eleanor Fortin, using a treasured family recipe for buttermints. Vernell's offices in 1948 were located at 6415 Latona in Seattle, but a large new factory and office complex was built between 1951 and 1953 at 1825 Westlake Avenue North. By the mid-1950s, Vernell's was the largest producer of buttermints in the world. Vern Fortin went on to become a co-founder of Quality Food Center (QFC Foods) in 1955.
This accordion-fold brochure offers recipes using Vernell's buttermints, "A Mint of enjoyment anytime!" The "Jiffy Hints for buttermints" include sprinkling crumbled Vernell's Buttermints on a serving of chocolate or vanilla pudding, or making "Minted Whipped Cream" by folding crumbled Vernell's into heavy cream.
