When the Beatles performed in Seattle on the third stop of their first official world tour, nineteen-year-old Timothy Eagan and his camera had an enviable view of the band from the edge of the stage. Eagan, who grew up in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, had gotten a press pass from a family friend, and had elbowed his way to the floor by the time the Beatles started the first song. Eagan went on to a career in photography, first as a staff photographer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and then with an agency in New York. Here, George Harrison and John Lennon sing in what must be one of the more raucous pieces in their set. John is belting it out, and "the quiet Beatle" George sings along, smiling for the fans. This photo was taken about halfway into their 29-minute set, and might show the lads singing "Roll Over Beethoven," their sixth song of the set. By all reports, not much music could be heard over the screams of the enthusiastic audience, which also surged at the group as they entered and exited the stage, protected by a phalanx of police officers and other security personnel. In an press interview the Beatles gave at the Coliseum immediately before the performance, the band was asked "How do you enjoy being mobbed?" John replied "Good-- as long as you've got the police," as the four boys laughed."
