When the Beatles performed at the Seattle Center Coliseum in August 1964, 19-year-old Timothy Eagan was lucky enough to score a press pass from family friend Ed Donohoe, editor of The Washington Teamster newspaper. The young photographer elbowed his way to the edge of the stage for this enviable view the Fab Four, shooting three rolls of film at the concert. Tim Eagan went on the become a professional photographer, working first for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper, then for an agency in New York. This photo shows lead guitarist George Harrison playing his 1963 Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar, with part of the sold-out crowd visible behind the stage. His subdued expression may have something to do with the decibel level in the Coliseum, where the screams of the audience reportedly drowned out the sounds of the Beatles' performance. According to Master of Ceremonies and KJR disc jockey Pat O'Day, who introduced the band at 9:25 pm, George looked at him, unplugged his guitar, then plugged it back in and shrugged, as if to say "No one can hear us anyway."
