A young photographer named Timothy Eagan was lucky enough to get a press pass from a family friend when the Beatles performed in his hometown of Seattle on the third stop of the band's first official world tour. Eagan elbowed his way to the edge of the stage to get this shot of all four band members performing, early in their 29-minute set. The stage at the Seattle Center Coliseum had been raised 12 feet for the Beatles' protection, and a shoulder-to-shoulder wall of police officers, Navy volunteers and other security personnel guarded the band during the concert. The Seattle Times reported the following day "Several teenagers had to be restrained by Seattle police as they raced toward the stage with dazed, wild expressions as if in a trance." In this photo, Eagan chooses to focus on drummer Ringo Starr, who would otherwise recede into the background behind the singers at the front of the stage. The band is probably performing one of the first two pieces in the set, "Twist and Shout" or "You Can't Do That," both of which feature John Lennon singing lead, with Paul and George on backing vocals. Timothy Eagan, a Seattle native who grew up in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, went on to a professional career in photography in Seattle and New York.
