Teenage photographer Timothy Eagan managed to obtain a press pass from a family friend when the Beatles came to his hometown in August 1964. On the third stop of their first official world tour, the Beatles played to a sellout crowd at the Seattle Center Coliseum. Four bands--the Bill Black Combo, the Exciters, the Righteous Brothers and Jackie DeShannon--warmed up the audience starting at 8:00. At 9:25, KJR disc jockey and Master of Ceremonies Pat O'Day introduced the Beatles to the screaming crowd. This photograph shows the Beatles shortly after their entrance onstage at the Coliseum. According to a front page article in the Seattle P.I. the following morning, "Out of the chute like Brahma bulls, they bounced to their places as the Coliseum rose in one vast adolescent moan." Here, several police officers surround the stage, standing nearly shoulder-to-shoulder. Security for the concert included fifty policemen and policewomen, four King County sheriffs' deputies, Fire Chief Gordon Vickery and fourteen of his men, plus six Armed Force police officers and 100 Navy volunteers.
