The Century 21 Exposition (also known as the Seattle World's Fair) ran from April 21 to October 21, 1962. Nearly 10 million people attended the fair. The exposition's displays and attractions were centered around themes of science and technology, but included showcases for a variety of world cultures. The World of Commerce and Industry exhibit included domestic and foreign exhibitors exploring new research and ideas for business and production.

The National Cash Register Corporation was one of the domestic exhibitors. Originally established to manufacture and sell the first mechanical cash register invented in 1879 by James Ritty, the company, known as NCR Voyix in 2025, is now a computer hardware, software, and electronics company that makes self-service kiosks, point-of-sale terminals, automated teller machines, check processing systems, barcode scanners, and business consumables.

At the fair, NCR exhibits highlighted their 310 and 315 electronic data processing systems. The model 315 included the CRAM storage device, the first automated mass storage alternative to magnetic tape libraries accessed manually by computer operators. This printout was generated at the NCR exhibit.
