The poster pictured here advertises a rock concert featuring The Enemy and The Visible Targets, and benefiting the National Abortion Rights Action League (now NARAL Pro-Choice America) and the Abortion and Birth Control Referral Service (a division of the University District YWCA). The Enemy (1978-1982) was a punk band featuring George Gleason, Suzanne Grant, Peter Barnes, and Damon Titus. Local post-punk group The Visible Targets (1979-1985) was made up of Laura Keane, Pamela Golden, Rebecca Hamilton, and Ron Simmons.
The show was held on Tuesday, November 17, probably in 1981, and was presented by The Rocket, a free Seattle newspaper that covered local music from 1979-2000. The show was held at legendary Seattle nightclub, the Fabulous Rainbow Tavern, at 722 N.E. 45th Street in the University District. The Rainbow first opened at the same location as a beer parlor in 1936 by Frank Salvino (1902-1960). Throughout the 1960s-1980s the club was a hub for the local music scene, and hosted shows by Annie Rose and The Thrillers, The Young Fresh Fellows, Jr. Cadillac, Green River, Robert Cray, and Soundgarden.
