The poster pictured here advertises a concert featuring The Persuasions, an a cappella group that began singing together in Brooklyn, New York in the mid-1960s. Founding members include Jerry Lawson, Jimmy ‘Bro’ ‘Mr. Bass Man’ Hayes, Joseph Jesse ‘Sweet Joe’ Russell, 'Little' Jayotis Washington, and Herbert 'Toubo' Rhoad. Special Guests for the show was Kidd Afrika (1967-1982), made up of Jim Lilly, David Link, Donny Marrow, T.J. Politzer, Larry Ryan, and Brian Steiner.
The show was held on Sunday, October 18, 1981, at legendary Seattle nightclub, the Fabulous Rainbow Tavern, at 722 N.E. 45th Street in the University District. The Rainbow first opened at the same location as a beer parlor in 1936 by Frank Salvino (1902-1960). Throughout the 1960s-1980s the club was a hub for the local music scene, and hosted shows by Annie Rose and The Thrillers, The Young Fresh Fellows, Jr. Cadillac, Green River, Robert Cray, and Soundgarden.
